Background

The ancient Cerfennia was an "Oppidum", in the local Safina language "Ocres", that is a fortified town of the Marsi along the ancient Via Valeria. Legend has it that the next medieval village, known at the time as Collis Armelis, or "the old hill", was formed by the survivors of the disappeared Cerfennia who chose the current place to build the new urban agglomeration. In 1806, the year of the abolition of the fiefdoms, Collarmele was administratively aggregated to Pescina and from 1811 to Circle. It was in 1816 that the town gained municipal autonomy. In 1915 the old village was completely destroyed by the Marsica earthquake which caused numerous victims. The Marsican town has been reborn thanks to the industriousness of its inhabitants.

- 1 [link not working]Collarmele Tower, Via Marinacci (Urban centre), ☎ 39 0863 78126, fax: 39 0863 789331, @[email protected]. Dating back to the Norman period, the tower is 18.45 meters high with a diameter of 9.60. Its position to the south with respect to the current center is not causal, but respects a plane of alignment with the nearby tower of Aielli, the Piccolomini castle of Celano and other cylindrical towers present around the former bed of the Fucino, in particular the towers of Venere dei Marsi di Pescina, Ortona dei Marsi and that of the uninhabited village of Sperone on the heights of Joy of the Marsi.
- 2 wind farm, Mount Coppetella (North east of the country), ☎ 39 0861 396225, fax: 39 0861 396225, @[email protected]. On the mountain overlooking the Marsican town there is one of the most important wind farms in Italy. The wind farm allows the production of "clean energy" through the wind power plant equipped with some wind turbines.
