What see

  • 1 Parish church of San Prospero, via Galaverna 6, 39 0521 805333, fax: 39 0521 332091, @. Simple icon time.svg8,30-12,30 - 15,30-18.30. The Pieve di San Prospero is located in an elevated position and owes its existence to the fact that it is Collecchio located on the stretch of Via Francigena that from Parma went up towards the hills to join Fornovo with the path it came from Fidenza, at the time Borgo San Donnino. The church was built in the 11th century in a basilica form, with three naves and three apses. In the thirteenth century it was enlarged, and still had renovations between the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries. The last intervention dates back to 1922, when the parish church was equipped with a high bell tower in Lombard Romanesque style. The rear part of the original church remains with the base of the lantern; in the bell tower a cornerstone of the ancient tower. The buttresses of the choir with part of the lantern and the presbytery are 15th century interventions. The facade has capitals with the symbols of the four Evangelists, and shows the Romanesque portal. The naves are separated by columns with capitals dating back to the 11th century, which have decorations with two-tailed sirens or griffins, and other 13th-century capitals, dating back to the first architectural renovation.
    Arch of the Bargello
As a parish church, the church had the power to baptize; the baptismal font dates back to the 13th century. Above the basin, a walled relief in white marble depicts the baptism of Jesus in the Jordan River and is the work of an artist from the Campione school of the same century. In the sixteenth-century side chapels of the church there are also seventeenth-eighteenth-century paintings: Madonna and Child with Saint Anthony of Padua, eighteenth century, attributed to Francesco Vieira; Madonna with Child and Saints Teresa, Filippo Neri and Pietro, from the late seventeenth century and from the Parma school; Madonna with Child and Saints Antonio Abate and Francesco from the end of the seventeenth century, attributed to Pomponio Amidano. For the use of the pilgrims of the Via Francigena, the Pieve was joined by a Hospitale di Santa Maria, which must have been located where the parish buildings can now be seen.
  • 2 Arco del Bargello and Villa Paveri, at the gates of Collecchio coming from Parma. The Bargello Arch, in Baroque style, introduces the Villa which was built at the beginning of the eighteenth century on the site of an ancient manor. It is quadrangular in shape and has a central turret with oval mullioned windows. The interiors of the villa were frescoed by Ferdinando Galli known as il Bibbiena; it is believed that the project of the villa as well as of the Tritons Fountain at the entrance of the same should be attributed to him. It belonged to the Dalla Rosa-Prati marquises, and was transmitted by female line to the current owners Paveri-Fontana.
  • 3 Villa Soragna, via Valli 3 - Parco Nevicati. It is located in a park that boasts centuries-old cedars and tall trees. It is home to the Collecchio cultural center. Built in the early nineteenth century, it has a loggia and a corner tower.
  • 4 Regional Natural Park of the Boschi di Carrega, @. In the territory of Collecchio, just outside the town, proceeding south, towards Fornovo there is one of the two entrances to the Boschi di Carrega (the other entrance is in the territory of the municipality of Baganza room). Established in 1982, it was the first park in the Emilia Romagna Region. It has an extension of about 1270 ha (2600 ha also considering the contiguous area). The landscape shows an alternation of woods, stable meadows and arable land crossed by numerous streams and small artificial bodies of water, created for landscaping and irrigation purposes between the late 1800s and early 1900s. For history and art lovers, the park also houses the Casino de 'Boschi.

Itineraries

  • Castles of the Duchy of Parma and Piacenza - Scattered over the Parma and Piacenza Apennines, but also present in the plain to guard the natural border of the Po, the numerous castles of the ancient Duchy of Parma and Piacenza characterize the whole area. Originally military bulwarks, many of them have gradually transformed their war nature into a refined noble residence and over time perpetuate the atmosphere of fairytale and legend that has always been linked to castles, in many of which the presence of spirits is told and ghosts.
