The Amalfi Coast (in Italian, Costa d'Amalfi or Amalfi Coast) is a region of the Campania, in the south of Italy, in a natural area between Naples Y Salerno.
Understand
Amalfi it was one of the maritime republics medieval Italians, among which a good part of the Mediterranean trade was distributed for their own power and wealth. Nestled in a rocky area with difficult access, the area experienced its greatest prosperity until it was conquered by the Normans in 1157, which caused the power of Amalfi to plummet and it was transferred to other nearby powers, such as Salerno first and Naples after.
It is a steep area in which, despite this, several population centers have developed, which due to their geographical location are tremendously picturesque. This, together with its difficult access, has created exclusive tourism for the international upper classes in the area. The fact that it has been the setting for various films and literary works throughout the 20th century has also contributed to this. In addition, it was declared World Heritage in 1993.

Other destinations
To get
To get there you have to do it by the state highway 163, either by car or on one of the buses that regularly leave from Salerno or Sorrento to the area.
It can also be reached by ferry from the same cities.
Travel
Buses leave from Salerno and Sorrento to Amalfi, with stops in each of the towns along the way. To go to a town that is beyond Amalfi, you will have to transfer.
With the ferry we can also go from Sorrento to Positano, Amalfi or Salerno, or between any of them. There are also those who take them to nearby Capri.
Among many of the towns there are trails that go up and down the nearby mountains. Some also lead to nearby convents and monasteries. So, if we have time, it is not a bad plan to take a walk through one of them to a nearby town.
