background

Map of Gettorf

Gettorf was first mentioned in writing around 1310, thanks to its favorable geographical location. At the intersection of trade routes at that time, it is likely to have originated around the Viking Age around 800-1000 AD. In 1846 Gettorf received a parish constitution. At that time there were 1342 people living in the village.

Today Gettorf with its almost 7500 inhabitants aims to function as a sub-center, mainly due to its central location in the Danish Wohld. It takes over the supply of the citizens of the surrounding area - many service companies and doctors have settled here. This results in a comparatively high level of supply despite the rural residential area.
