Gieselwerder is a village in the Weser Uplands and the capital of the municipality Upper Weser.

  • Gieselwerder is on Weser cycle path. From Hann. Münden is about 28 km to Bad Karlshafen Cycle 14 km on the right (north-east) bank of the Weser.
  • The well-developed one runs to the left of the Weser Hess. Long-distance cycle route R1 , which also leads to Bad Karlshafen and ends there.

  • 1  Half-timbered town hall, in Gieselwerder. Noteworthy half-timbered building from the 18th century. A model of the historic moated castle can be found in front of the town hall.
  • 2  Kircher Weaving Museum, Steinweg 2. Exhibition and experience house for textile history in Gieserwerder.
  • 3  Miniature open-air museum Mühlenplatz. Open: Open April 1 - Sept 30, 10 a.m. - 6 p.m., Oct 1 - 15, 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. Closed in winter. If Easter is in March, the season starts on Good Friday.Price: € 2, young people aged 14 and over and the severely disabled € 1, children aged 5 and over € 0.80.
The miniature system was created from 1969 as a hobby project for a set designer. The open-air museum shows models of buildings on a scale of 1:25 to 1:40. You can see a collection of water mills that are powered by the stream that runs through the site. There is also a castle collection with models, among other things. to Wartburg, Neuschwanstein or Mespelbrunn. There are also various regional models to be seen, such as the Melsung town hall or the old Kassel town hall on the Altmarkt (old town hall; this building was demolished in 1837). The Mühlenplatz is located above the village, from the center of the village at Schneewittchenplatz it is about 1.2 km on foot, which is signposted through the fields.
  • 4 Water uphill - Small sight on the roadside: The Mühlgraben, which crosses under the street here, has a lower gradient than the street. This creates the optical illusion that the water is flowing "uphill".
