Water uphill

The "water uphill" is a small sight that you can take with you along the way. On the Gottsbüren - Gieselwerder road in the Reinhardswald, the water in the Mühlgraben, which runs parallel to the road, seems to flow uphill as it descends. The reason is an optical illusion: the road drops off significantly more steeply than the Mühlgraben. This creates the impression that the water is flowing uphill. The Mühlgraben has been renovated since mid-October 2011 and the "water uphill" is working again (see also Announcement of the extra tip from October 12th, 2011).

  • Location: You can find the "water uphill" a few hundred meters above Gieselwerder on the slope of the Reinhardwald on the L 763 to Gottsbüren. (according to OpenStreetMap exactly at 51 ° 35 '55 "N.9 ° 32 '10 "E not far from the open-air museum Mühlenplatz).
