Induno Olona is a city of Lombardy.
To know
Induno Olona is a town in the province of Varese, bordering the capital and the country of entry from the south into the Valceresio.
Geographical notes
Geographically it is located at the intersection of the Valganna and of the Valceresio, crossed in the hamlet of Olona by the river of the same name, which through its side branch forms the waterfalls of Valganna. Located between the Varese Pre-Alps, it rises on the slopes of Monte Monarco, a short distance from Varese, of which it was, at the time of the Fascist period, a fraction. At the end of the Second World War, on 25 October 1950, after a popular referendum, Induno will once again become an autonomous municipality.
The difference in height of the municipality is between 379 meters above sea level. in the hamlet of Olona, and 855 meters above sea level of Mount Monarco.
The flora and fauna are typical of the pre-Alpine areas.
When to go
The continental climate relegates a cold winter to the country; the strategic position, on the outskirts of Varese and a few kilometers from the border with Switzerland, does not particularly limit the period of visit to the city.
Background
The birth of Induno Olona dates back to the 5th century BC, during the invasions of the Gauls in the Lombardy areas.
From the finds found in the locality Patch, it is known that the Romans founded a stable settlement there only in the 1st century BC, in the Valceresio; while the territory now occupied by the road leading to Olona Valley it was swampy.
In the 9th century A.D. the Lombards aggregate the inhabited area to Castelseprio; it is probably under the Lombard dominion that the Pezza Tower, now in ruins, and the Frascarolo Castle were erected.
In the following centuries it passed to the Pieve di Arcisate and to the Diocese of Milan.
Induno Olona underwent the Spanish domination, while under the Austrian one it was subjected to the province of Varese. After the Napoleonic period it was placed under the District of Arcisate, in the province of Como.
In 1827 the first municipal council was elected.
In the 19th century Induno Olona was transformed from an agricultural town into an industrial town, thanks to the presence of the Olona river which feeds six factories; in 1903 the railway of the Valganna, which connected Induno with Varese and with Not him.
In 1927 the town of Induno Olona was suppressed and aggregated to Varese, as had already happened briefly during the Napoleonic period; it recovered its autonomy on 25 October 1950, after a referendum in 1949.
