Ingelheim is a city in Rheinhessen on the Rhine between Mainz and Bingen.
background
Ingelheim flourished as early as the 8th century when it became a strategically located imperial palace, but lost its importance in the late Middle Ages. For centuries the city remained a provincial town that lived from viticulture (red wine). In the 20th century, Ingelheim grew into an industrial city, and the pharmaceutical company Boehringer Ingelheim is a defining feature of the city.
