Public transportation

Alzey is the hub for regional train traffic in Rheinhessen. There are connections to Worms, Bingen and Mainz. A diesel railcar also runs from Alzey to Kirchheimbolanden. Another train stop for on the way is Niederolm. In Ingelheim Regional express trains also stop.

The Selzroute is a cycling route. The journey by car is therefore cumbersome, as you have to go back to the starting point.

Route description with sights

The Selzquelle at Orbis about 5 km north of Kirchheim-Bolanden. Although the spring is somewhat built in architecturally, it offers an interesting function: You can pump water into the spring using the hand pump, which can be found in the middle left in the picture. This can be seen in the lower right corner of the picture (more reminiscent of a bland water drain)

Stage - Alzey

After arriving by train to Kirchheimbolanden A visit to the city center is worth seeing (pretty baroque old town and remains of the city wall).

The Selz itself rises north of Kirchheimbolanden at Orbis. Orbis can be reached from Kirchheim-Bolanden via quiet but mountainous country roads. This route has also had a cycle route signage since 2009.

  • To Alzey you experience Rheinhessen pure.
  • Behind Gau-Odernheim we have to conquer the "foothills" of the Petersberg (approx. 30 - 40 m high hill). If you want, you can also drive up to the summit. The mountain is one of the most beautiful viewpoints along the way.
