It is disputed whether the Cistercian monastery received the place as early as 1185. The place was indisputably mentioned for the first time in 1262. Jasło received city rights from Casimir III. the great in 1365. Strategically located, the Hungarian trade developed in the place. However, the place was occupied and looted by foreign troops in 1655, 1657 and 1772. In the course of the first division of Poland, the city came to the Habsburgs. It became Polish again after the First and Second World Wars. In 1944 the city was systematically destroyed by the Wehrmacht, so that only about 3% of the original building fabric has been preserved.
