Early is a community in Southern Lower Saxony. West of Goettingen is the place and its neighboring place Barlissen in the western hills of the Leineberglands in the Münden Nature Park.

background

The community Jühnde consists of the two villages Jühnde and Barlissen.

Early, located at the foot of the Hohe Hagen and only about 15 km from Göttingen, is the eponymous capital of the small community with just under 780 inhabitants. The roots of today's manor go back to a robber baron's castle, which - not preserved in its original form - already existed at the time of Otto I around 960. Jühnde is known far beyond the state border of Lower Saxony first bioenergy village in Germany known that completely covers its energy needs from regenerative energy sources and is a model for numerous other energy villages in the region and throughout Germany. The half-timbered village, idyllically situated in the hills of the eastern Mündens Nature Park, is certainly the right place for a quiet break and extensive hikes on one of the numerous hiking trails, but you shouldn't expect tourist activity there.

The smaller one Barlissen with about 330 inhabitants is located 2 km south of Jühnde in the Drammetal. Historically, it goes back to the original seat of the house of Berlepsch, and was probably founded as today's village, like Jühnde, in the time of Otto I (936 - 972), which is also supported by some archaeological finds in the region.

The project, which was developed in cooperation with the Interdisciplinary Center for Sustainable Development (IZNE) at the University of Göttingen and the Federal Environment Ministry for Consumer Protection, Food and Agriculture, has since served as a model for numerous other bioenergy villages. Barlissen

St. Laurentius Barlissen
  • 4 St. Laurence . The church from the 14th century has been rebuilt and expanded several times. Its thick walls are the remains of an earlier castle belonging to the von Berlepsch family, which the Duke of Braunschweig had razed in 1297 and thus expelled the noble family from Barlissen. Berlepsch Castle, a few kilometers south in the Hessian region, was completed in 1368 as the new headquarters. The steeple of the St. Laurentius Church with its massive sandstone ashlar masonry still testifies to the fortified origins of the building, the pointed slate spire and the golden weathercock are features of this small but impressive church that can be seen from afar.
