The Lednice-Valtice cultural landscape (Czech: Lednicko-valtický areál) is a cultural landscape registered in the UNESCO World Heritage List in South Moravia or the Moravian Slovakia. During the 19th century, that House of Liechtenstein in addition to the two main buildings - the castles in Lednice and Valtice - numerous smaller buildings were erected in the area.

The area was designed from the 17th century, but mainly from the early 19th century, on an area of ​​approx. 280 km², landscape architecture in the style of Romanticism. The area protected by UNESCO includes the main towns of Lednice (Eisgrub) and Valtice (Feldsberg) as well as areas of numerous other municipalities, including Břeclav, Ladná, Podivín, Bulhary, Hlohovec, Lanžhot, and Sedlec. In the west it borders on the UNESCO biosphere reserve Pollau Mountains (Pálava).

By plane

The nearest airport with international scheduled connections is in Brno (approx. 60 km away, 1½ hour transfer by public transport). The airports are also easily accessible from Vienna and Bratislava.

By train

Břeclav is with express trains and regional trains Vienna, Brno, Bratislava and Warsaw easy to reach. From Vienna you can take the Railjet or Eurocity only 55 minutes (hourly; normal price € 20; bicycles can be taken). From Břeclav it is 10 km to Lednice, 12 km to Valtice. One can take a regional train direction Mikulov or. Znojmo continue and you will reach the Valtice stop in 14 minutes. Another branch line from Břeclav to Lednice is only in operation in summer and on weekends. A historic train runs (tickets available on the train, journey time approx. 30 minutes). The closest train station to Lednice on the Brno line is Podivín, from there a bus (line 555) goes to Lednice in 10 minutes, or you can travel the remaining 7 km to Lednice Castle with your own bike.

  • Motorway D2 Brno-Bratislava, Exit 41 Podivín, continue on regional road 422 to the south (Lednice - Valtice)
  • Fernstrasse 40 Mikulov - Břeclav runs through Valtice
    • in Mikulov connection to trunk road 52 from Brno or from Vienna (via A5-B7)
    • in Břeclav connection to trunk road 55 from Olomouc or. Uherské Hradiště as well as the D2 Brno-Bratislava motorway
  • Recommended approach from Vienna via the A5 to the exit Poysdorf-North and from there on via the L22 via Herrnbaumgarten and Schrattenberg to Valtice (travel time approx. 1:15 hours).

There is paid parking on site. The parking fee (chargeable 24/7, including weekends, public holidays and at night) must be paid in advance at the machines. Payment with coins (Czech crowns), bank notes, credit cards and euros are not accepted. Fee 25 CZK / hour. Free parking spaces are difficult to find in Lednice and Valtice. Hotels and restaurants offer their own parking spaces for their customers.

By bicycle

The Amber route from the Baltic Sea to the Adriatic (EuroVelo 9) as well as the Iron Curtain Europe Cycle Route (EuroVelo 13) run right through the Lednice-Valtice cultural landscape. From Vienna it's on the EuroVelo 9 through the Weinviertel (Wolkersdorf, Mistelbach) around 100 kilometers. In addition, there are numerous local bike connections with connections to national bike paths along the Thaya and March.

mobility

The parks and palace gardens may only be viewed on foot. However, since the area is huge, it is advisable to have a vehicle for a tour. It is almost 10 km from Lednice to Valtice alone.

In the Lednice chateau park there is a ferry line from the chateau to the minaret (100 CZK for adults).
