The province KwaZulu-Natal lies in the southeast South Africa. It is known for its natural wonders and game parks, but also for the metropolis Durban and the culture of the Zulus.
Regions
- Drakensberg - impressive mountain range inland. Ideal for hiking, climbing, relaxing, fishing, mountain biking.
- Zululand - Former heartland of the Zulu with Ulundi, the capital of the Zulu king.
- Elephant Coast, earlier also than Tongaland designated. - Very poor area with beautiful nature. Here is the iSimangaliso Wetland Park (Unesco World Heritage), the equally beautiful lake Lake Sibaya and the bay Sodwana Bay (ideal for diving), as well as that Kosi Bay Nature Reserve. The special attraction is the Hluhluwe Umfolozi Park.
- Greater Durban - Area around the metropolis of Durban
- North Coast between Greater Durban and Zululand, also called Dolphin Coast known
- South coast or Hibiscus Coast - Extends along the coast of Durban to Port Edward. The subtropical forests and especially the beaches on the relatively warm Indian Ocean are a nice destination for a trip.
- Battlefields - The region was hotly contested between the Boers and the Zulus and between the Boers and the British during the Boer War.
- Midlands - Rural region between the Drakensberg and Greater Durban
- East Griqualand - Small, historically interesting region in the southwest of the province
places
- 1 Durban is the provincial capital and cultural center. The majority of South Africans of Indian descent live here and the city therefore has a very special flair. The city's beaches and promenade are popular, but the center is rather shabby.
- 2 Pietermaritzburg is an old inland university town
- 3 Eshowe is the oldest European settlement in Zululand and a good starting point to get to know this region.
- 4 Ladysmith
Other goals
- 2 Hluhluwe Umfolozi Park (Hluhluwe – iMfolozi Park)
getting there
By plane
- 1 King Shaka International Airport (IATA: MAJOR). Durban Airport is the third largest in South Africa and has good connections to the main cities in the country.
