Laa an der Thaya is a city in Weinviertel and border town to Czech Republic. The city is known nationwide for the thermal baths and the beer produced on site Hubertus Bräu.
background
getting there
By plane
- Brno-Tuřany Airport - approx. 60 km northeast
- Vienna Schwechat Airport - approx. 100 km south
By train
The train station is about 1200 m east of the main square.
- The S-Bahn line S2 leaves Laa Vienna (including Meidling, Hauptbahnhof, Mitte, Praterstern, Floridsdorf) without changing trains, travel time approx. 1:20 h. Stop along the way in Gerasdorf, Wolkersdorf and Mistelbach
- The railway line across the border to the neighboring town of Hevlín (Höflein) has been interrupted since 1945. Plans to close this gap have existed since the 1990s, but have been slow. Since the railway line to Hevlín has now also been discontinued on the Czech side, it is also questionable whether there will ever be a train connection to Brno again. Next train station on the Czech side: Hrušovany nad Jevišovkou (approx. 15 km north) with regional connections to Znojmo, Mikulov, Břeclav and Brno.
- The Pulkautalbahn (Laa-Zellerndorf on the Vienna – Znojmo line) was closed to passenger traffic in 1988 and is now only used by freight trains.
By bus
There are numerous regional bus connections to the neighboring communities. From Hevlín (approx. 2 km north of the border) you can use the Moravian Transport Association buses (e.g. to Brno or Znojmo).
