Matalascañas is a holiday resort on the coast, about 40 km southeast of the provincial capital Huelva. The huge nature reserve closes further east and north Doñana at.

Nowadays Matalascañas is mostly visited by Spaniards during their holiday season (there used to be far more foreign tourists) - it is therefore less suitable for families who are looking for a German connection for their children. It is extremely crowded over the summer months, especially in August, and very quiet in winter. The beach is picturesque, quite wide and stretches for another 30 km to the left and right of the city. In the meantime, there are also mussels again, which have been very rare in the last ten years.

There are hardly any transport connections to Matalascañas, which is why you can either come from Huelva or from Seville above Almonte arrives.

If you decide on Matalascanas as your holiday destination, it is strongly recommended to take a rental car for the time. Parking is very rare, especially on the weekends in summer, and is usually paid for. You should also make sure that the speed limit is 90 on the main roads and the speed limit 120 on the autobahn. The Guardia Civil regularly carries out speed checks, which can quickly become very expensive. The "star boxes" often resemble inconspicuous power distribution boxes and flash from behind.

Tourist Attractions

The place stretches for a good five kilometers along the coast, the center and thus also the old town is at the western end. There is also the landmark, the Torre La Higuera, an old watchtower of the Romans, which was overtaken by the sea over time and now stands between high and low water levels inside and outside the water and invites you to climb and jump.

The audience is exclusively Spanish and accordingly lively. There are opportunities for going out here for all age groups. The best time to go out is between 11:00 PM and 4:00 AM.
