Nova Levante (Welschnofen in German) is a center of the Trentino Alto Adige.

Geographical notes
Located in the South Tyrolean area of the district Salto-Sciliar, Nova Levante is 21 km from Bolzano, 25 from Moena, 28 from Cavalese.
Background
Over the centuries the shepherds of the Val di Fassa they built houses near their summer pastures to be able to carry out their activities throughout the year and cleared more and more the woods towards the valley. Nova Levante is mentioned for the first time in 1177 under the name "Noue" (= clearing, new land). The community of Welschnofen is originally Ladin and until 1600 the majority of the population maintained their own Ladin dialect, of the Badiotto type. The language of the area was naturally Germanized during the following centuries and the original Ladin disappeared.

What see
- 1 Carezza lake. It is a small alpine lake located in the upper Val d'Ega at 1,534 m in the municipality of Nova Levante, about 25 km from Bolzano. It is set among dense fir woods and is located under the slopes of the Latemar massif, which is reflected in its crystalline water.
- The lake is known for its wonderful colors and for this reason in the Ladin language it is also called "Lec de Ergobando" (or "arcoboàn"), meaning "lake of the rainbow". The name of the lake derives, according to the Italian Touring Club Guide, from the "Caricaceae", a family of plants with broad lobed leaves. The lake has no visible tributaries and is fed by underground springs. Its extent and depth vary according to the season and weather conditions.
