Flora and fauna

The vegetation that is encountered in the valleys of the Park is the result of the joint action of two fundamental ecological factors: the particular climatic regime and the geological substrate. The result is a floristic heritage consisting of about 1200 species and subspecies and over 60 endhesisms, including the Zoys Campanula, the Froelich Gentian and the Silvery Geranium.

Faunal species of southern, circum-Mediterranean and eastern origin coexist in the Park area. All alpine ungulates are present (roe deer, deer, chamois, ibex and wild boar) as well as other important mammals including the wild cat, various species of mustelids, rodents and insectivores.
