The Pfaffenwinkel in Upper Bavaria is the area around the Peißenberg southwest of Ammersee and starnberger Lake.

The traditional Pfaffenwinkel got its name after the, also for the catholic one Upper Bavaria, above-average number of monasteries and churches. The pre-alpine landscape of meadows, forests and lakes, characterized by the many church buildings, is representative of the entire Upper Bavaria region.

Ammer Gorge
The Upper Bavarian "Grand Canyon" between Peissenberg and Altenau was created because the Ammer had to cut through a molasse bar here.
