background
Philippsburg is a city in Hardtwald in the Upper Rhine Plain. Philippsburg emerged from a place called Udenheim, which was first mentioned in a document in 764 and had city rights since 1338. During this time the place was the residence of the prince-bishops of Speyer. Shortly before the Thirty Years War, Bishop Philipp Christoph von Sötern left his residence in a mighty fortress called Philippsburg Remove. It was of little use, the fortress was repeatedly conquered and destroyed, the last time in 1799 by troops from the French Revolution. Then it was finally razed.
The two districts belong to Philippsburg Huttenheim and Rheinsheim. The Philippsburg nuclear power plant is located on the Rheinschanzinsel.
