Germersheim is a city in the Front Palatinate.

Germersheim lies in the meadow landscape on the left bank of the Rhine. The place was first mentioned in a document in 1090. In 1276 Germersheim received city rights. In 1674 the troops of the French King Louis XIV destroyed the city and the castle. After the French Revolution, Germersheim was under French rule from 1793 - 1814, after which the city and the Palatinate became part of Bavaria. The federal fortress of Germersheim was built between 1834 and 1861. It was razed after the 1st World War.

The Sondernheim district was incorporated in 1972. In the last few years the old town has been extensively renovated, in connection with the expansion of a cycle path network.

Closest major city is Karlsruhe.
