Braies (Italian. Braies) is a vacation community in Hochpustertal in South-Tirol (Italy). South of the parish and already in the Braies Dolomites lies the Pragser Wildsee, known nationally and the largest natural lake in the Dolomites.
background
The municipality of Braies is located on the south side of the Hochpustertal on the north slope of the Braies Dolomites and in the Pragser valley system with the Pragser Bach, which flows into the Rienza.
At "Säge" the Pragser Tal divides:
- The branching off eastern side valley with the Stollenbach is that Old Prague Valley with the parliamentary group Except for Prague (Part of the municipality) and the former Altprags spa (1379 m). The road in the valley continues south into the Braies Dolomites to the Brückele alpine pasture (with the Brückele Alpine inn) and also up to the Plätzwiese at an altitude of 2,000 m.
- The western valley with the Pragserbach is the fraction Inner Prague (Municipality part) with the main town Forge (1,222 m, 140 inhabitants) and the place St. Vitus (1,351 m, 70 inhabitants). The road only leads to the nationally known hotel on Lake Braies, the valley then continues as Grünwaldtal with the Finsterbach to the west into the Braies Dolomites.
There are also a few other hamlets and individual farms.
The use of healing springs in the Bad Old Prague can be traced back to the year 1490 with a first bath room. The bathing industry experienced a high point at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, after which the bathroom fell into disrepair.
