- Collegiate church. The collegiate church, also known as "San Candido Cathedral", is one of the most important Romanesque sacred buildings in the entire Eastern Alps. The Benedictine monastery of Innichen was founded in 769 under the Bavarian Duke Tassilo III and is therefore the oldest monastery in Tyrol. The church was built as a three-aisled basilica in the 13th century with the help of Lombard builders. The creation of the dome and the vault are dated around 1200, and the church was consecrated in 1284. The tower was completed in 1326, the vestibule around 1415. The organ front dates from the 17th century. Particularly worth seeing are late Romanesque dome frescoes (around 1285, on the theme of the creation story), the Romanesque crypt and a Gothic fresco, as well as the crucifixion group in the choir. The 2.20 m high "Great Lord God of Innichen" dates from around 1220 together with the figures of Maria and John.
