Rees is a city on Lower Rhine In the state North Rhine-Westphalia. Rees belongs to the District of Kleve. Neighboring places are Isselburg, Hamminkeln, Wesel, Xanten, Kalkar and Emmerich on the Rhine on German and Oude IJsselstreek (Province Gelderland) on the Dutch side.

Rees consists of eight districts: Bienen, Empel, Esserden, Haffen, Haldern, Mehr, Millingen and Rees (city).

Rees received city rights in 1228. During the Second World War (February 16, 1945) the city was almost completely destroyed.
