It is a fraction of the municipality of Piuro, south of the Val Bregaglia.

Geographical notes

The village of Savogno is perched on a natural terrace where a large part of the town develops, mainly surrounded by woods.

When to go

The town is inhabited, in the summer, by some residents of the municipality of Chiavenna; also in this period a bar-refuge with rooms is kept open.

Background

The village was definitively abandoned starting from 1968 due to the progressive depopulation of the area to the advantage of towns further downstream and easily accessible.

By plane

By car

State road 38a leads from Lecco at the northern end of the Lake Como. Here the SS36 branches off towards Chiavenna, which divides you into the SS37 through the Spluga Pass and the SS36 through the Maloja Pass. Savogno can be reached quickly from the Lake Constance through the Switzerland up to Splügen and then via the Splugen Pass.

On the train
