Geographical notes
Chiavennasco is nestled in the Alps, approximately in the center of the mountain range, between the Lepontine Alps and the western Rhaetian Alps. It thus divides the Western Alps from the Eastern Alps. It has a vertical course, unlike the direction of the Alpine ridge. Its conformation is due to the action of the alpine glaciers of the ancient age.
The region borders the Canton of Grisons (in Switzerland) to the north, north-east and west, with the Valtellina to the southeast and with the Comasco and the Lecco South.
