Schwetzingen is a major county seat in the Electoral Palatinate, which is southeast of Mannheim It belongs to the Rhein-Neckar district in Baden-Wuerttemberg.
getting there
By plane
Schwetzingen can be reached by plane via the Mannheim regional airport can be achieved.
The nearest international airports are Frankfurt am Main in the north (approx. 1 hour away) and Stuttgart in the southeast (approx. 1 1/2 hours away). Frankfurt-Hahn Airport, which is also served by Ryanair, is connected to Mannheim by a direct bus line (approx. 2 1/4 hours travel time).

- Schwetzingen has no part in the Rhine. Mooring facilities for pleasure boats are in Ketch on an arm of the old Rhine.

- Ferry connections exist at Bruehl (Koller Island) and at Altrip. If necessary, check travel times!
- There is a bridge connection at Speyer (B39). The motorway bridge (A61) is not available to cyclists and pedestrians!

Streets and squares
- The Palace Square is in front of the main entrance of the castle, in its extension the Carl-Theodor-Strasse partly lined with linden trees to the east. On the left is the Hirsch Palace with the Kunstverein. From the castle you can see the tower of the Pankratius Church (catholic) on the left; opposite is the city information center and the town hall.

The former court theater in the palace complex (so-called Rococo theater) was built in 1752 by Nicolas de Pigage as the theater of the Palatinate summer residence. The interior, in the forms of early classicism, has been the venue of the since 1952 Schwetzingen Festival. The rococo theater cannot normally be visited and is only open for performances.
