Tuscan Valtiberina is an area of the Tuscany.
To know
Valtiberina is the valley crossed by the upper course of the Tiber (which originates from Monte Fumaiolo in Emilia Romagna), unfolding between Tuscany, Umbria is Romagna, parallel to the Casentino. Therefore the Tuscan Valtiberina is the Tuscan portion of this valley and is characterized by a large presence of rural and mountain areas.
Geographical notes
Valtiberina is closed to the west byAlpe di Catenaia and east fromAlpe della Luna. Historically, the Valtiberina has a medium-high level of seismicity and this is one of those territories in which seismic events, albeit of lesser intensity, can create very serious damage.
The area is geographically well defined, since for the most part it corresponds to the first route of the Tiber river and some of its tributaries (among the main ones the Singerna in the municipalities of Pieve Santo Stefano is Caprese Michelangelo; the Sovara in the municipality of Anghiari; il Cerfone in the municipality of Monterchi and Afra in the municipality of Sansepolcro). The Tiber flows in the center of the area for about thirty kilometers, crossing the slopes of the Apennine chain and then the flat valley floor. The remaining part develops on the Adriatic side of the Apennines (which crosses the area to the north-east for a stretch of about 8 kilometers) including the Alta Valle del Marecchia (the river of Rimini) and the Alta Valle del Foglia (the river of Pesaro).
Culture and traditions
Near Sansepolcro there are huge tobacco crops Kentucky which is used in Italy to manufacture the famous Tuscan cigars with an unmistakable aroma.
