Wertheim is a city in Baden-Wuerttemberg on the border to Bavaria. The Taubertal begins near Wertheim. Neighbor is the Spessart.

The city of Wertheim is located at the confluence of the Tauber in the Main. It is the largest city in the Main-Tauber district of Baden-Württemberg. Since the municipal reform in 1975, Wertheim has owned a total of 15 formerly independent municipalities as well as a number of farms and living spaces. Reicholzheim and Wet are the two largest districts; the former Cistercian monastery in is also widely known Bronnbach.

Wertheim Castle

  • 1 The ruin of the castle rises above the old town on a mountain spur and offers a good view over the area Main and deaf. Construction began in the 12th century. It was largely destroyed during the Thirty Years' War and only partially rebuilt afterwards. The castle is open from 9 a.m. until dark. (The system must remain closed in snow, slippery ice and storms). The building can be visited, entry 2 € (as of 04/2017), access via turnstiles. You can walk to the castle from the old town in about 10 minutes, the entrance to the collegiate church. For less mobile people that runs in the summer half of the year Burgbähnle from 10 a.m. every half hour from the Main forecourt up to the castle, the last return journey is 5.40 p.m. The restaurant in Löwenstein building has a terrace with a view over the old town.
