background

Zaisenhausen was first mentioned in a document in 991. In the 13./14. In the 18th century the place was under the rule of the Maulbronn Monastery, after which it belonged to the Electoral Palatinate for several years until it came into the possession of the Württemberg people in 1504. The discovery of a sulfur-containing spring in 1713 brought Zaisenhausen a brief period of prosperity, spa facilities with a bath and drinking house were built, and when Zaisenhausen was swapped for the Electoral Palatinate in 1747, it was a popular bathing resort with 100 guest rooms. The decline of the fashion industry began around 1780: the Elector Palatinate moved his residence to Munich. In 1803 Zaisenhausen came to the Grand Duchy of Baden, but the lucrative bathing business came to an end. In the years that followed, Zaisenhausen was an agricultural place which, thanks to its convenient location in the Karlsruhe district, has developed into a residential community.

The neighboring towns Kraichtal, Oberderdingen, Kürnbach and Sulzfeld belong to the district of Karlsruhe, which borders in the east Eppinger Rohrbach an Zaisenhausen district.
