In the street

The Upper Ahr Valley can be reached from the north via the A1 to the currently provisional end of the motorway at Blankenheim. At the end of the autobahn, follow the B 258 south to Blankenheim.

The middle and lower Ahr valley can be reached via the A 61, exits at the Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler motorway triangle (from the north) or the Sinzig motorway triangle (from the south).

From the source in Blankenheim, the B 258 leads to Müsch through the Ahr valley. From Müsch, the L 73 follows the course of the river to Dümpelfeld, where you meet the B 257, which accompanies the Ahr valley to Altenahr. From Altenahr to Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler, the B 267 accompanies the Ahr, and finally the B 266 to the mouth of the river.

By train

The Ahr Valley Railway serves the lower and middle Ahr valley regularly from Bonn and Remagen. Travelers from the south have to change trains in Remagen; The end of the line is Ahrbrück.

At the same time, bus line 841 runs via Altenahr to Kreuzberg (Ahr). The area between Altenahr and Liers is served by the bus line 862, from Ahrbrück to Dümpefeld the line 863 runs (with onward journey to Adenau). The upper Ahr valley from Dümpelfeld is served by line 864 (coming from Adenau) to Müsch, and bus line 817 runs between Antweiler and Dorsel.

The Upper Ahr Valley is served by the Blankenheim (Wald) train station, a stopping point of the Eifel-Mosel-Express, of Eifel Express and the Eifel Railway, which is 6 km from the city of Blankenheim. From there buses run every hour to the center of the village, from where you have a connection to line 832 through the Ahr valley to Ahrhütte (Mon-Fri; on Saturdays there are connections in the call-line taxi, on Sundays and public holidays there are no public transport). There is no cross-border bus service between Ahrhütte and Dorsel.

By bicycle

The Ahr cycle path is easiest at the bottom over the Rhine cycle route reachable. The upper section from Ahrhütte to Blankenheim is steeper in places. The source of the Ahr can also be reached via the upper reaches of the Erft above Bad Münstereifel or the Urft above Kall to reach.

By boat

  • The Ahr is not navigable for commercial shipping. The navigability with sport boats in the lower reaches is to be checked, at least with small boats the Ahr can be navigated in places.
  • The mouth can be reached via the Rhine, which is available for inland navigation; in Remagen there are mooring options for sport boats.

Upper Ahr Valley

Middle Ahr valley

Lower Ahr Valley
