Auersthal is a market town in the south Weinviertel. In addition to extensive natural gas production facilities, the village is also worth seeing for the well-preserved wayside shrines and martyrs in the area.

background

Auersthal was founded by settlers from Bavaria around 1050 and mentioned in a document in 1140 as "Urolfstal". In 1485 Auersthal was sacked by the Hungarians, in 1529 by the Ottomans, in 1645 by the Swedes, in 1805 and 1809 by the French and in 1866 by the Prussians.

There are extensive natural gas fields around Auersthal, the extraction of which is an important industry for the town. For around 30 years, the village has also been a smaller suburbanization destination in the Vienna metropolitan region.
