Gänserndorf is a district capital and local, economic and educational center of the Marchfeldes. The City of pillars was once the location of a safari park, but it had to close and today there is an adventure park there.

On February 10, 1115, "Genstribindorf" (Goose driving village) first mentioned in a document, the name refers to the main economic branch of the place, the goose breeding.

The spelling of the place changed several times in the following centuries, the names Großgänserndorf and Unter-Gänserndorf im Marchfeld (in contrast to Ober-Gänserndorf) are also documented Korneuburg) designated. After Unter-Gänserndorf became the seat of a district authority, the name was changed to Gänserndorf on March 21, 1904.

The upswing in Gänserndorf began with the connection to the Northern Railway in 1838. In 1853 the community was granted market rights; it was elevated to the rank of town by a resolution of the Lower Austrian provincial government on December 19, 1958.

The 1 railway station is about one kilometer east of the city center on Nordbahnstrasse. Gänserndorf is on the Nordbahn, the main railway line from Vienna to Warsaw. However, international long-distance trains do not stop in Gänserndorf.

By bus

There are regional bus connections to the neighboring towns of Marchfeld.

  • Gänserndorf is on Angerner Strasse B8 from Vienna to Angern an der March, where a car ferry can be used to cross the March to Zahorská Ves.

  • 4 District Commission (Schönkirchner Straße 1): Three-story building, built in 1901
  • 1 Hauptschule I II (Eichamtstrasse 4): Three-story building, built in 1912
  • Piefkedenkmal. The "sound sculpture made of COR-TEN steel" in front of the city library resembles a record and makes a scratching noise when it moves. It was erected in September 2009 in honor of Johann Gottfried Piefke, who entered Gänserndorf in July 1866 with his brother Rudolf The city also commemorates the battle with the sculpture Königgrätz, in which Piefke had participated as a military musician.
