Bernburg (Saale) is the district town of the Salzlandkreis in the Magdeburg Börde in the center of Saxony-Anhalt. Bernburg is historically part of Anhalt and was the residence of the Anhalt-Bernburg branch line. The castle, which can be seen from afar, still towers over the city today.

Bernburg is the location of the Anhalt University of Applied Sciences. The campus is located in the Strenzfeld district.

Local trains run by Abellio in Bernburg. There are connections to Magdeburg (via Calbe), Halle, Dessau (via Köthen) and Aschersleben, among others. The 1 Bernburg Hbf station is located about half a kilometer to a kilometer east of the city center.
