Bruckneudorf is a community in Northern Burgenland, right on the border with Lower Austria. It is with the Lower Austrian district capital Bruck an der Leitha completely grown together.

background

Bruckneudorf was originally that part of the Lower Austrian city Bruck an der Leitha, which had grown over the then Hungarian border on the Leitha river. For a long time it was a border town that was mainly inhabited by customs officers, soldiers and their families, before Bruckneudorf came to Austria from Hungary as part of the Trianon peace treaty in 1921. The state border has been in Nickelsdorf / Hegyeshalom.

Name: The German name Bruckneudorf already says that the village is a new settlement from Bruck. The Hungarian name Bruckújfalu is a direct translation, whereby Bruck is also used in Hungarian in the German spelling. The alternative name, which was then the official name from 1865, was Királyhida and translated means King's Bridge. Emperor Franz Josef was Emperor of Austria, but "only" King of Hungary.

The limestone from the Kaisersteinbruch Has been valued as a building material since the Middle Ages and was also used a lot in Vienna, among others. for magnificent buildings and monuments. Today, large parts of the quarry are a training area for the Austrian Armed Forces.

Districts: In addition to the main town of Bruckneudorf, the community also includes the small settlements Kaisersteinbruch and Königshof.
