Beeches (Odenwald) is a city in Baden-Wuerttemberg in the southeast of the Odenwaldes at the transition to Building land.

Old town hall beeches

Buchen was first mentioned in a document in 773, the place initially belonged to the Amorbach monastery. In the 13th century, Buchen received city rights. From 1303 to 1803 Buchen belonged to the spa town of Mainz, then for a few years to the principality of Leiningen, and finally in 1806 it became part of the Grand Duchy of Baden. From 1938 to 1975 Buchen was the administrative seat of the district of Buchen.

From 1971 to 1975, 13 formerly independent municipalities were incorporated as part of the municipal reform. Since that time the places Bödigheim, Eberstadt, Einbach, Götzingen, Hainstadt, Hettigenbeuern, Hettingen (Buchen), Hollerbach, Oberneudorf, Rinschheim, Stürzenhardt, Untereudorf and Waldhausen have been districts of Buchen.

The district of Buchen had the license plate number BCHthat not without pride as "B.adic C.Christian Hinterland was interpreted. In the meantime this license plate has been registered again and you can often see it on the streets in the vicinity of the city.

Buchen borders on the places Walldürn, Rosenberg, Osterburken, Seckach, Limbach and Mudau as well as in the north Schneeberg in Lower Franconia.

  • The 1 City tower, former Mainzer Tor in the historical city fortifications. At the outer archway is that too Blecker to see.

  • The 2 Old City Hall from 1723, built in red sandstone. The archways of the open basement are decorated with Envious minds.
  • 3 St. Oswald, Catholic town church, modern chancel
  • The Fool's well, a modern bronze sculpture depicts the main characters of the Buchemer Faschenacht dar, of the Huddelbätze on the Straw bear up to Blecker, between the old town hall and the church of St. Oswald.

The focus of the exhibits: Museum on the border between building land and Odenwald, on the Limes between Romans and Teutons, Roman technology, collections of folk songs, traditional costumes, coins, ceramics, furniture and tools.

Eberstadt

  • 6  Eberstadt stalactite cave, Höhlenweg 8, Nahe Erberstadt. Tel.: 49 6281 2780, 49 6281 31155 (near the city of Buchen), (0)6292 578 (Visitor center). The cave is almost at ground level over a length of 600 m. Access only as part of a guided tour that begins on the hour.   • 7  Eberstadt Castle. Originally a moated castle. The moats are filled in except for a small pond. The castle received its current appearance around 1705. The rear left round tower is still in its original condition, the rear right was rebuilt after a collapse. The castle is privately owned, no interior visits are possible.

Bödigheim

  • The 8 Corridor chapel Bödigheim was built in 2010 from larch wood and impresses with its simplicity. It stands on a hill between Bödigheim, Seckach and Großeicholzheim.
  • The 9 Bödigheim Castle and the adjacent castle are not open to the public

  • 11  Watch tower book (southeast of the city). The tower is 394 m high, 14 m high and offers a good view.Open: Apr. - Oct. on weekends from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., outside of this time the key can be obtained from the tourist office.

The figure of Blecker goes back to the siege of the city in 1382. At that time a single man was supposedly able to convince the opposing troops to withdraw by showing his fat buttocks. The picture shows a detail of the fountain of fools. The original figure is in the district museum, at Faschenacht a replica is carried on a wagon that has to be kissed on the bottom.
  • The Buchemer Faschenacht has been guaranteed since 1447 and has had a firm tradition in the city ever since. The symbol figure of the Blecker not lacking, as well as the reputation Hinne houch.
