Location of the Emilia-Romagna region in Italy.

Emilia-Romagna[1] is a region of Italy. It is the union of two other regions: Emilia, so called because it was the one through which the Roman Emilia passed; Y Romagna, which is where the descendants of the Roman Empire were established once it had already fallen at the hands of the barbarian invasions.

Regions

Apart from the already mentioned historical regions of Emilia Y Romagna, the Emilia-Romagna region is administratively composed of 9 provinces: Piacenza, Parma, Reggio emilia, Modena, Ferrara, Bologna, Ravenna, Rimini and of Forlì - Cesena.

The most important are the capitals of each province, but especially the capital of the region, Bologna. Other relevant cities are Parma, origin of the famous Parmesan cheese; Modena, whose Romanesque-style cathedral is a World Heritage Site; Ravenna, former capital of the Italian territories of the Byzantine Empire, and where important samples of his art have remained; Ferrara, whose historic center is also recognized as a world heritage site.
