Going at the Wilder Kaiser is a village in Sölllandl at the feet of the Wild Emperor in the State of Tyrol. The community is one of the most famous ski and summer sports locations in the Eastern Alps.

background

The name Going is traced back to a Bavarian prince of the Gauwo or Guovo. The place itself was first mentioned in 1160 as Gowingen and belonged to the Kitzbühel district court. Other place names in the 14th and 15th centuries are Gaygen, Gaigen, Gaying.

The region was originally predominantly agricultural, in the 16th and 17th centuries mining was also practiced. The main source of income for the place today is upscale tourism, the flagship is the renowned noble hotel and historic Gasthof Stanglwirt, the hotel complex is practically a separate district.

The districts of Going are Schwendt, Aschau, Prama, Sonnseite and Schattseite.

Going is known through television as one of the filming locations for the TV series The mountain doctor.
