Especially the west of Austria has a lot to offer for "snow lovers" in winter. The large ski regions, to which several, mostly smaller areas, have come together, are particularly well-known and popular. Those who prefer it a little quieter can still find the cozy family area.
What that Price structure is concerned, that's a clear one West - east gradient detectable. The eastern ski areas around Carinthia are the cheapest and therefore most attractive for families. All around Ischgl, Soelden and Sankt Anton am Arlberg the young audience lives a ski party with corresponding prizes. Kitzbühel, Zürs and Lech is a meeting place for the stars, the money nobility and also the real nobility.
In the following some of the most important winter sports resorts and ski areas are categorized by federal state. It will be the official sites the mountain railway operator or tourism associations are listed. Tourism associations are indicated if no separate mountain railway website exists or is known. Reference is made directly to their own ski resort articles on Wikivoyage or to information in local articles, if they are available. If new information is added to Wikivoyage, reference should be made to this information.

security
In Austria the Helmets are compulsory for children up to 15 years of age according to a directive of the federal government from 2009. In some of the Austrian federal states, this directive has so far only been seen as a recommendation, but should nevertheless be strictly adhered to because of the risk to children.
