Goiás (state) - Goiás (estado)

Goiás is a state in the region Midwest of Brazil.

Understand

The history of Goiás goes back to the times of Brazilian colonization. Gold had been found in Minas Gerais is at Mato Grosso, from there came the belief that "if there is gold in the west and if there is gold in the east, there must be gold in the center." This statement has been proven true. In 1726, deposits of gold and alluvial gold were found in the Rio Vermelho region, in the territory of the Goyá Indians, a race that is now extinct.

The São Paulo pioneer Bartolomeu Bueno da Silva commanded the flag that intended to explore the region. The pioneer asked the Indians to show him where the deposits were located. The Indians refused to help. To persuade them, the bandeirante poured brandy into a bowl and set it on fire. The Indians thought that the brandy was water and thought that this man could set fire to the water. The Indians had no choice but to show the explorer the deposits and nicknamed it as Anhanguera, which means "Old Devil" in the Goyá language.

The Anhanguera then founded the Arraial de Sant'anna in 1727. New deposits were discovered in Corumba de Goiás and Arraial de Meya-Ponte (today Pirenópolis. The Arraial de Sant'anna would later become Vila Boa de Goyaz. The captaincy of Goyaz was created through the Carta Régia, which emancipated the new captaincy of the captaincy of São Paulo (today the State of São Paulo) and Vila Boa was elected capital of the captaincy. After the depletion of gold and the Proclamation of the Republic, Vila Boa became Goiás.

The State of Goiás lived, until the 1930s, a period of low growth. At the encouragement of the president at the time, Getúlio Vargas, through a national integration plan. Goiania was built to be the new state capital, as the City of Goiás it had archaic infrastructure for the 20th century.

the foundation of Goiania, on October 24, 1933, contributed even more to the development of the Midwest Brazilian. Today, Goiania it has more than 1,500,000 inhabitants and attracts many tourists because of its numerous restaurants, gardens and quality of life.

Goiás is home to several tourism hubs. The cities that initially emerged as a result of the exploration of gold, now receive tourists from all over the world. City of Goiás, Corumba de Goiás, Pirenópolis, Pillar of Goiás, Caldas Novas, hot river and Goiania are the cities most sought after by tourists in Goiás.
