Gruyeres (officially in French Gruyères) is a city in the canton Freiburg. It is located around 6 kilometers southeast of Cop.
background
The town is located on an isolated hill at the northeast foot of the Moléson. At the point where the Saane (French: Sarine) leaves the Freiburg Alps.
The following districts belong to the commune of Gruyères:
- the locality Epagny at the north foot of the city hill
- the locality Pringy at the west foot of the city hill
- the hamlet Saussivue at the southern foot of the city hill
- the holiday complex Moléson Village

By plane
By train
Gruyères is located on the narrow-gauge railway that connects Bulle with Montbovon. From Bulle you can take the RegioExpress to Friborg (1 hour) and from there to Bern or the regional train (without changing trains) to Palézieux (1 hour) and from there to Lausanne. From Montbovon you can change to the Goldenpass-Panoramic to Montreux or Saanen-Gstaad-Zweisimmen.
From Gruyères train station, the bus route continues to the town.

The A 12 motorway must be left at the Bulle exit. The main road to Gruyères currently runs right through Bulle (bypass is under construction).

The old town is traffic-calmed and is therefore best explored on foot. It is 500 meters from the parking lot in front of the city to the castle.
A cable car leads to the Moléson.
There is a bus route between Bulle and Moléson-Village.

The old town has been able to keep its medieval appearance. It is still enclosed by the medieval fortress wall.
