Lutry is a Swiss City in the canton Vaud, at the Lake Geneva.

background

The community is in the center of the Lavaux, and is dominated by the vineyards on the slopes of Lake Geneva.

In addition to the town of Lutry, the following districts belong to the community; Châtelard, La Conversion, Corsy, Bossières, Monts de Lutry and La Croix-sur-Lutry.

The area has been settled for a very long time, because the Meniere's construction dates from 4500 to 4000 BC. Estimated Chr. At the time of the Romans there was a watchtower and a settlement called Lustriacum. It was first mentioned in a document in 516, and during the High Middle Ages the area around Lutry belonged to the Kingdom of Burgundy. At the beginning of the 11th century a Benedictine priory was founded here, which was subordinate to the Abbey of Savigny-en-Lyonnais in France. The settlement around this priory came under the administration of the Bishop of Lausanne in 1079. Between 1212 and 1220, the settlement was surrounded by fortification walls and later granted town charter. After the conquest of Vaud by Bern in 1536, the monastery was dissolved and the municipality was placed under the administration of the Bailiwick of Lausanne. At the end of the Bernese rule, the municipality was assigned to the Lavaux district. This was retained after the Vaud was founded. In 1824 the village of Savigny separated from the municipality and became independent. On January 1, 2008, Lutry becomes the new district Lavaux-Oron belong.
