background

The name is a little confusing because it is used for different purposes and is not always congruent.

The region name covers the lake shore east of Lausanne up to the Tore Veveys and is congruent with the wine-growing region Lavaux, and thus also includes parts of the Vaudois Rivierabut not Vevey, Montreux or La Tour-de-Peilz.

In the Lavaux wine-growing region, the following communes have appellation status: Lutry, Villette, Epesses, Dézaley (Grand Cru), Calamin (Grand Cru), Saint-Saphorin, Chardonne, Vevey, Montreux.

The Lavaux district was abolished on December 31, 2007 and was not congruent with the Lavaux wine-growing region. Today it belongs to the Lavaux-Oron district. The eastern part of the Lauvaux in particular belongs to the Riviera-Pays-d'Enhaut district.

The first vineyards that made Lavaux so famous and are also listed in the Unesco World Heritage Site were built in the 12th century. The area under cultivation for wine is around 800 hectares.

language

The majority of French, German and English are widely used as second languages.
