Vevey is a Swiss City in the canton Vaud at the Lake Geneva.
backgrounds
The city of Vevey, located on Lake Geneva, takes its name from the Roman Vibiscus and was already an important trading center with a port at that time. Around 1200 the village received city rights. After the rule of the Savoy, Vevey belonged to the canton of Bern until the canton of Vaud was founded in 1798. Many French Huguenots fled here in the 17th and 18th centuries. In the 19th century it slowly emerged as an important tourist destination. Together with Montreux, it is part of the core area of the Vaudois Riviera.
