Karlshagen is a seaside resort in the north of the island Usedom in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. The seaside resort is between Peenemünde in the northwest and Trassenheide in the south East. The continuous, approximately 40-kilometer-long sandy beach of Usedom ends north of Karlshagen.

The more recent history of Karlshagen is very closely connected to that of Peenemünde, which can be seen by the open-minded observer along the northern border of the town. The Peenemünde scientists' settlement (Waldstrasse) and the "Trial Command North" (VKN) were located in Karlshagen. Even after World War II, Karlshagen remained on the edge of the extensive restricted area of Peenemünde. Here was a barracks barracks camp and numerous dormitories for the pilots of the "Hermann Rau" fighter squadron.
With the demilitarization of Usedom, Karlshagen, with its wide, stone-free sandy beach, was able to contribute to the development of other seaside resorts, such as Trassenheide tie in. Karlshagen has a very beautiful, wide sandy beach, which is certainly the first port of call for most visitors. In addition, the port on the Peenestrom and the surrounding landscape are well worth seeing.

Despite the preservation of historical monuments, some of the residential buildings that were originally built as part of an overall structural concept are now alienated from their original character.
