The Baltic seaside resort Koserow lies west of the Streckelsberg on the island Usedom in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

background

The place, whose name is possibly derived from the Slavic "Kos" (blackbird), is mentioned for the first time in the middle of the 14th century. The first bathers visited the fishing village in the middle of the island of Usedom in the middle of the 19th century.

Koserow became known through the Vineta saga and the very successful novel "The Amber Witch" in the previous century. According to the Vineta legend, the formerly very wealthy merchant town of Vineta is said to have sunk into the sea in front of the Streckelsberg.

Due to its attractive location on the Streckelsberg, Koserow quickly became a popular seaside resort on Usedom. Some bath villas testify to the seaside resort's past going back to the imperial era. After reunification, the seaside resort underwent significant structural extensions, including the construction of a pier.

getting there

Koserow is on the B111 federal road and can therefore be easily reached by car from both Wolgast and Zecherin / Usedom. The road has been around the town since the mid-1970s - visitors leave the B111 west or south of Koserow to get to the seaside resort.

On the south-eastern outskirts of Koserow is the stop of the Usedomer Bäderbahn. The southern part of the seaside resort can be easily reached from the train station. The Usedomer Bäderbahn of Stralsund coming runs every hour until Swinoujscie (Świnoujście Centrum) in Poland. If you want to reach the north of the place, a taxi is recommended; the distances are up to 1.5 km from the stop.

On the main street (the former "Inselstraße") there is a bus station from which many destinations on Usedom can be reached.

By bicycle

mobility

By car you can quickly get to the B111 via Koserower Hauptstraße and on this to all destinations between Swinoujscie and Wolgast. A network of local streets creates short distances to shopping, gas venues and the beach. The traffic situation on the island should only be considered in the months of July and August; At this time, especially in bad weather, traffic jams can quickly occur on the B111.

All seaside resorts are between Peenemünde and Swinoujscie easily reached. Bicycles can be carried for a fee. If you want to reach Peenemünde, you have to go to Zinnowitz change.

Koserow is connected to the network of cycle paths on the island of Usedom. The coastal cycle path is particularly recommended for comfortable, stress-free excursions. However, the rapidly changing elevations of Streckelsberg, Pageluns Berge, Langer Berg, which are strenuous for inexperienced cyclists, should be considered.

Tourist Attractions

Nature is also in the foreground in and around Koserow. Two landscape panoramas are particularly recommended:

  • The Streckelsberg with an impressive view over the Baltic Sea and in many places over the backwaters as well as the white sandy beach at the foot of the mountain and
  • The backwater coast between Damerow and Lütten Ort. Lütten Ort is the narrowest part of Usedom - the sea and backwater (here the backwater arm Rieck) are only a few hundred meters apart.

Also worth seeing is the medieval village church, which has now been carefully renovated, and the pier in the northwest of Koserow.
