As in the whole country, Polish is spoken in the region. In the southern parts of the region there is a specific bustle that is incomprehensible to many Poles and foreign tourists.

Katowice Airport

There is a good and frequent connection to the Netherlands from the airport of Katowice. WizzAir flies from Eindhoven to Katowice Airport daily with cheap ticket prices. Lufthansa flies to Katowice three times a day via Frankfurt. Into the airport Katowice is located 80 km west of Krakow and has a frequent bus shuttle service with the city. Tickets cost 10€ one way and buses are synchronized with the airport on arrival and departure. The companies are Matuszek and Pyrzowice Express. Both have comfortable buses and the journey takes an hour and a half.

In Małopolska, it is worth taking the raft down the Dunajec River or seeing an old wooden church. Just like in Silesia and here you can do mountain tourism.

  • Oscypek - hard-smoked sheep's cheese is the most common mountain food.
  • Bryandza - soft rennet cheese made from sheep's milk.
  • Pierogi ruskie - boiled dough made of flour, water and salt with filling (usually cottage cheese and potatoes).
  • Barszcz ukrainskic - spiced soup, including beetroot, fresh cabbage and potatoes cut into sticks.
  • Obwarzanek krakowski - dry bread in the form of a circle sprinkled with sesame, salt or poppy seeds.
  • Kwaśnica - soup prepared from sauerkraut and meat, usually eaten with potatoes or bread.
  • Czosnianka - is a Highlander's soup cooked with potatoes, garlic, onions and mint.
  • Moscow - fried pancakes, regional dishes from the Tatra Mountains.
  • Lesser Poland beer - traditional beer produced at the brewery in Leżajsk, Okocim and Żywiec. In addition to the aforementioned, you will find several private breweries in the region, for example in Krakow (Twigg) and Rabka-Zdrój (Podgórz).
