Klingenberg am Main is a city in Francs, more precisely in Lower Franconia with the districts of Trennfurt, Röllfeld and Klingenberg. It is idyllically situated on the Main and is a state-approved resort, where wine is grown on the southern slope of the Spessart. The city is called Red Wine City. Viticulture has a centuries-long tradition in Klingenberg (vineyards "on the high mountains" were mentioned in a document in 1261). Of the many wines grown, the Pinot Noir is the most popular.

Tourist Attractions

Old town

  • 1  Historical old city. For a stroll through the old town, it is best to park on the wine festival square with its oversized wine goblet. In the city center there are many, mostly beautifully restored half-timbered houses from the 16th and 17th centuries. In recent years, many artists and painters have settled here, and their studios can often be seen from the street. One of the most beautiful half-timbered houses is the old town hall, which is currently the seat of the tourist information office. It dates from 1561. It has a half-hip roof and a central bay window. The lower floor was originally an open market hall.
  • 2  Historic city palace. The city palace, built in 1560, is located on the edge of the old town. It initially belonged to the von Aulenbach family and later to the von Maierhofen family, whose successors still live there. It is privately owned and therefore not open to the public. There is a park to the east of the building, some of which is also used for events.
  • 3  rose Garden. The rose garden was originally part of a very large palace park and is located north of the city palace. The park was laid out in the French style in 1741 and was adorned with many sandstone figures. A part was redesigned by the city of Klingenberg as a well-tended rose garden and is freely accessible to the public. There is an ice cream parlor right near the rose garden.
  • Viticulture and local history museum with faithfully constructed mine gallery from clay mining -

Officials appointed by the Archbishopric of Mainz later lived here until the city palace in the center of Klingenberg was completed in 1560. After that the castle fell into disrepair. It was bought by the city around 1870 and restored as a fairground and theater square. The nationally known Clingenburg Festival has been taking place on the Clingenburg regularly since 1994, which means that the castle ruins are only partially accessible.
