Obernburg am Main is a city in Main square. It is located in the Lower Franconian district of Miltenberg directly on Main, around 20 km south of Aschaffenburg between the Odenwald in the east and that Spessart in the West.

At the time of the Romans (approx. 110 AD) a fort is occupied in the district of Obernburg, which served to secure the Nassen Limes (Main). The first written records as a place date from the year 1183. In 1313 Obernburg was raised to the status of a town. The city wall was built in 1344 and reinforced in the 15th and 16th centuries. In the Middle Ages, viticulture played a major role, although it was increasingly being replaced by fruit growing.

The station Obernburg-Elsenfeld is on the opposite, eastern side of the Main and can be reached by car from Obernburg via the Main Bridge or a separate pedestrian bridge. The stop with the PR parking lot is on the single-track line of the Main Valley Railway (Aschaffenburg – Miltenberg line) and is served by regional trains and Regional Express trains. There is also a request stop a little south Glanzstoffwerke for visitors and employees of the Industrial Center Obernburg (ICO).

In the street

By boat

Obernburg is located directly on the Main and has an entry and exit point for boats. The next boat moorings for passenger ships are in Aschaffenburg or Miltenberg.

By bicycle

Obernburg is part of numerous regional and national bike tours, whether leisurely along the Main or as a starting point for challenging tours through the Odenwald or Spessart. The local, moderate Mountain bike route E1 leads from the sports field in Obernburg-Eisenbach over numerous hills and valleys around the city. Nevertheless, the car traffic through the old town is relatively high. Every Friday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. there is a small weekly market on Rathausplatz. Discount stores and supermarkets are located in the Eisenbach district along the exit road towards Mömlingen. In the north of Obernburg, the Spilger residential center offers a wide range of furniture. Every Saturday from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m., a flea market is held on the fairground on the Main.

An industrial park is located in the north of the city. The furniture store Spilger is the largest employer here. In the south of the city between Obernburg and Eisenbach there is another industrial area called “Im Weidig”. The Kuka company (formerly Reis Robotics) is located here as a large employer.
