The township Mittersill is located in the Salzach Valley and is the main town in the Oberpinzgau. Mittersill is the seat of the National Park Administration of Hohe Tauern National Park and the National Park Exhibition Center National Park Worlds.

Mittersill is located at the intersection of the Austrian federal highways B165 - B168 from the Zillertal over the Gerlos pass and through the Salzach valley to Zell am See (west-east direction) with the Felbertauern route from the Lower Inn Valley to East Tyrol (North-south direction).
