Map of Nordholz

Nordholz is a village in the municipality of Wurster North Sea Coast in Elbe-Weser triangle between Cuxhaven and Bremerhaven. The place is the home base of Naval Aviation Squadron 3 Count Zeppelin and 5, and has a long history of naval aviation.

background

  • The coastal resort of Nordholz is centrally located in the Weser and Elbe triangles between Bremerhaven and Cuxhaven. With the districts of Cappel-Neufeld and Spieka-Neufeld, the municipality borders directly on the North Sea and the Lower Saxony Wadden Sea National Park, the gateway to the Wadden Sea World Heritage Site.
  • Nordholz was mentioned as early as the 14th century under the name Norderortt. Ecclesiastically, Nordholz and Deichsende belonged to the Spyk (Spieka) parish founded in 1319. Around 1550 Deichsende and Nordholz formed the "Episcopal Court Deichsende". In 1967 the voluntary amalgamation of the three former municipalities Deichsende, Nordholz and Wursterheide was implemented by state law. In 1969 Wanhöden joined Nordholz. The municipalities of Spieka, Spieka-Neufeld and Cappel-Neufeld merged in 1968 to form the municipality of Spieka. In 1974, by state law, Spieka was incorporated into the unified municipality of Nordholz.
  • You don't really notice a core town of Nordholz (with a small town or village flair).
  • There is a risk of confusion: Spieka and Spieka-Neufeld are two different districts of Nordholz. Cappel is a separate municipality, Cappel-Neufeld is a district of Nordholz.
  • Neighboring municipalities are: Dorum (with the district Dorum-Neufeld), Cappel, Midlum, Long (these communities belong to Country sausages), Wanna, Cuxhaven.

By train and bus

In the street

  • About the A27 is Nordholz with its own junction Symbol: AS 3 North wood connected.
  • Parking spaces in the foreland of the dike are not considered to be storm surge-proof!

By boat

Spieka-Neufeld has a marina, which is dry when the tide is low.

  • Spieka-Neufeld: The operator of the marina claims that entry and exit would be possible in the two hours before and after the flood, with a draft of up to one meter. When the tide is low, the yachts lie dry.
  • The next permanently accessible port is Cuxhaven, in the Elbe estuary.

By bicycle

Several cycle routes between Cuxhaven and Bremerhaven run in the municipality:

  • The runs through the main town and then further inland Poststrasse.
  • The North Sea Cycle Route is led on the land side of the main dike.
  • Another cycle route is over the "Altendeich".
  • Sections also run on the outside of the main dike; they are of poor quality. Only these paths are free of car traffic.
  • Most of the paths in the municipality are approved for cars; Residents and vacationers like to use these secret routes, as they are also marked on the maps.

On foot

  • The crown of the main dike and paths in the foreland are only permitted for pedestrians; in some areas there are seasonal full closures (protection of bird brood until the end of July).

mobility

  • Most of the connecting routes are also approved for cars; real bike paths outside the towns are the exception.
  • The railway connects the main town with Cuxhaven and other neighboring communities. The distances within the community are relatively large, bus connections are rather poor, so it makes sense to have your own vehicle (bicycle or car).
